Shepard Grabs First 305 Victory

#87 Shepard #16 Thompson

The 305 division would roll into Williams Grove on 5/10/23

Alex Thompson would set the stage in qualifying with a time of 18.963 followed by Shepard, Uber, Klosterman, Curnin, Bowes, Burns and Sroufe.

Heat 1 would line up Burns, Uber and Thompson. Curnin would miss the bell for heat action. Burns and Thompson would battle all 6 laps for the front row starting position in the feature. Thompson would ultimately be the victor followed by Burns and Uber. Curnin was scored as 4th.

Heat 2 would see Sroufe lead the way followed by Bowes, Klosterman and Shepard. Nearing the halfway point Klosterman had a run heading into 1&2 when contact was made with the leader ultimately resulting in a DNF for the heat. Shepard would capitalize on the contact and go from 3rd to 1st to grab the heat race win.

Come feature time the drivers put on a show. 3 and 4 wide battles all throughout the pack. Front row starters Thompson and Shepard would battle for the first 10 laps when a bobble by Thompson let Shepard drive around him to his outside. On lap 12 Thompson would attempt to drive under Shepard making contact and spinning out, sending him to the rear. The field would come to the restart and Shepard managed to retain the lead. 3 laps later Uber would catch the inside tractor tire and see him in the hot pit. He would return to action. With 10 to go the field would line up single file for the restart. Shepard managed to get a good jump and put a little distance between himself and hard charger Curnin. Curnin would close the gap and start a war of sliders and crossovers with Shepard nearing the 5 to go signal. Shepard would survive the attack and go on to win his first 305 race with the league.
